MARIA-CRISTINA ONEA

Maria-Cristina Onea (b. 1999, Romania) lives and works in London. She holds an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art (2025) and a BA (Hons) in Fine Art Photography from Glasgow School of Art (2023). Working across analogue photography, sound, performance, and light-based installation, Onea treats light as a sculptural and spiritual medium, something to be shaped, conjured, and set in motion. Her practice dwells in the romantic language of photography as light-writing, tracing the ephemeral choreography of migration, movement, and things in flux: bodies, birds, aircraft, shadows, and signals.

Onea’s work has been shown internationally, including at Rencontres d’Arles (2025), Liverpool Biennale (2025), the Royal College of Art (2025), Brompton Cemetery Chapel (2025) and CCA Glasgow (2022). As well as numerous performances in sound working with field recording, spatial sound, and instrument construction exploring and extending the emotional and temporal registers of her installations.
