LYNDON BARROIS JR.

Lyndon Barrois Jr. (b. New Orleans, USA) is an artist and educator based in Toronto, Canada. Working across a range of media, he mines references from film, literature, art history to produce translations and transformations to examine the politics of display and colonial extraction resonant in visual and material cultures. His rich practice navigates questions of colour, control, taste, waste, and the layering of information.

Barrois Jr. is also one half of LAB-D, a collaborative practice with artist Addoley Dzegede. Together, they have staged four exhibitions and co-authored a book of essays, Elleboog (Jan van Eyck Academie, 2019). He received a MFA from Washington University in St. Louis (2013) and a BFA in Painting from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Baltimore (2006), and completed residencies at LATITUDE (Chicago, Illinois); Loghaven (Knoxville, Tennessee); the Jan van Eyck Academie (Maastricht, the Netherlands); Fogo Island Arts (Newfoundland, Canada); and the Irish Museum of Modern Art (IMMA) (Dublin, Ireland). Most recently, he was the 2025 Starr Fellow at the Royal Academy Schools, London.

Barrois Jr. is currently an Assistant Professor at York University in Toronto. Previously, he was an Assistant Professor and MFA Program Director at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Selected recent group exhibitions include: Between the Acts, Alma Pearl, London (2026); Camera Obscura, Public Gallery, London (2025); Possibility for Repair, Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland, OH, USA (2024); The Last Train After the Last Train, Public Gallery, London, UK (2023); Looking Back: White Columns Annual Exhibition, White Columns, New York, NY (2023); and The Regional, Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, Kansas City, MO (2022); among others. His work is in important private and public collections including the Jorge M. Perez Collection / El Espacio 23, Miami; FL; The Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, PA; The Bunker Artspace; West Palm Beach, FL; and the Danish Art Council, Copenhagen, Denmark.

Upcoming solo exhibitions include Patinated, Institute of Contemporary Art, Buffalo, USA; and Desert of Promise, Alma Pearl, London (both autumn 2026).
