Armando Andrade Tudela Peruvian, b. 1975
Overview
Armando Andrade Tudela delves into the intricate connections between popular culture, politics and art. His work often draws inspiration from the cultural and historical heritage of South America. Beyond surface-level observations, his pieces are centred around the intricate mechanisms of translation and transference
Andrade Tudela explores how aesthetic concepts are absorbed and then repurposed through political and social means, particularly within local communities. His work seeks to understand how ideas are interwoven into the very landscape and geography of a place. Andrade Tudela’s work is included in important public collections worldwide such as the Guggenheim Museum, MoMA, Tate, and Centre Georges Pompidou to name a few. His work is currently included in the exhibition ‘Chosen Memories’ at MoMA, which showcases a selection of works by Latin American artists gifted to the institution by Patricia Phelps de Cisneros. In addition, ‘Teatro disociativo’, Armando Andrade Tudela’s solo exhibition at CAP - Centre d'art de Saint-Fons, Saint-Fons, France showcases both recent and older work and will run until 29 July.
