Hoa Dung Clerget French–Vietnamese, b. 1985
“I prefer to start from the end to arrive at the beginning... like a story that is told and that we want to dig into to find the origin... to regain the Lost Time.”
–Hoa Dung Clerget
Hoa Dung Clerget (b. 1985 Paris, France) works across painting, craft, installation and performance. Her work reflects on the transformation of domestic objects. Hoa Dung often deconstructs the everyday material and reimagines it in a new form urging the viewer towards stories about the cultural transmission of traditions and gestures in families. Working with mundane objects located in her French-Vietnamese education creates a bridge between different places and produces an instantaneous community that allows her to reverse the situation of displacement and fragmentation encountered by the diaspora.
Behind each transformation of a domestic object there is a search to reduce means while building an accumulation of gestures. The works often refer to the history of Minimalist art in this partially unfulfilled desire not to overdo.
