Sophie Goodchild British, b. 1993

Overview
Sophie Goodchild (b. 1993) is a British artist based in the East Midlands. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with an MA in Painting in 2021, having previously completed the Alt MFA at the School of the Damned in 2019. Her practice is deeply rooted in materiality and tactility, with a particular focus on wool as her primary medium. The structure of wool is inherently tidal—embodying the natural rise and fall of both fibers and layers—creating an intricate interplay of order and rhythm. Central to her work are explorations of structure, craft, repetition, trust, and territory, all of which emerge through the fusion, nurturing, and preservation inherent in the act of making.

Recent solo exhibitions include The Sand in the Pearl at Trafalgar Avenue, London (2024), and Significant Other: Bulging Water at Flatland Projects, Bexhill (2022). Selected group exhibitions include MATTER at Flowers Gallery, London (2023); Boundless Textiles at Hive Curates, London (2023); Within Reach at Sid Motion Gallery, London (2022); Sticking Ground, One Thoresby Street, Nottingham (2022) and Saxifrage, Kupfer Project, London (2022).
